The multiwire chamber has been
further developed. The drift chamber is based on the
same technique, but measures the time for liberated
electrons to drift to the anode. For drift chambers
this distance can be very large, reducing the number
of wires needed. With the drift chamber it was
possible to further improve the precision without
significantly increasing or even reducing the number
of wires. The drift chamber has been used in many
collider experiments, surrounding the collision
point.
