			<sub><![CDATA[Your dog has type 1 diabetes. This is a very serious disease. With proper treatment, however, your dog can live a happy life for many years.]]></sub>
			<sub><![CDATA[Your dog cannot produce its own insulin. If it doesn't get insulin injections, its blood sugar levels will rise. This is dangerous. However, if you give it too much insulin or miss feeding it properly, its blood sugar levels will become too low. This is also dangerous.]]></sub>
			<sub i="bs_meter"><![CDATA[To aid you in your caretaking, you have an indicator of your dog's blood sugar level. You should try to keep this as close to normal as possible.]]></sub>

When food is digested, carbohydrates are converted to glucose, which is a sugar the body uses for energy. Without insulin, the body can't use or store glucose.]]></sub>
			<sub i="danger_high"><![CDATA[If the blood sugar level is too high, it means your dog is not capable of turning the sugar (glucose) in its food into energy. Instead, its body will start to break down body fat to make up for the perceived lack of sugar. This process will lead to the build up of toxic acids in the blood - a condition known as ketoacidosis. This is very dangerous, and if you don't give your dog insulin it will fall into a coma and eventually die.]]></sub>
			<sub i="danger_low"><![CDATA[If the blood sugar level is too low, it means your dog has either not eaten properly or you have given it too much insulin. If your dog has low blood sugar, it can become restless, anxious, and unstable. It can also get cramps and start shaking. If you suspect that your dog's blood sugar is too low, you should give it sugar in a form as pure as possible.]]></sub>
