Gel Electrophoresis of Ribosomal Proteins

Ribosomes contains mainly basic proteins (proteins that are positively charged at neutral pH). In addition the ribosome also contains some neutral or acidic proteins. The proteins can be extracted from the ribosome and separated by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis. These 2D-techniques usually separate proteins according to charge in the first dimension and according to size or charge (at a different pH) in the second dimension.
